I just recently finished The Ghost Map: The Story of London's Most Terrifying Epidemic- and How It Changed Science, Cities, and the Modern World.

http://www.amazon.com/Ghost-Map-Steven- ... 1594489254

In summary, it follows the diligent work of Dr.John Snow and Henry Whitehead in 1856 London, and how they used critical thinking and deductive reasoning to determine that cholera was a waterborne epidemic.

The writing is crisp and engaging. The amount of research behind it is incredible.

Interesting. So how is it written? From the perspective of Snow and Whitehead themselves? Or just a 3rd person. I guess what I'm asking is: Was it written to entertain or can it be viewed as mostly a long paper about how they solved the problem aka like some science paper?

It's entertaining. It's written from a third party historical perspective. The amount of information the author recovered about some of the families involved (who are merely footnotes in history) gives it a certain immersion. Whether those parts are real or extrapolated, I couldn't tell ya.
